On Thursday, June 12, Newton Alderman President Mr. Lisle Baker appeared before the Saugus Charter Commission to share his views on Newton's unique governing charter. The Saugus Charter Commission was elected by the voters to examine our current government and make suggestions for improvement. Unlike Newton, Saugus is curently governed by a town manager, a five-member Board of Selectmen and a representive town meeting. With thoughtful clarifty and appropriate detail, Alderman Baker explained Newton's unique representative apportionment process, the role of the legislative and executive branches, and the importance of enabling citizen participation at all levels of government. We are very grateful that Mr. Baker was able to accept our invitation to visit with the Saugus Charter Commission and explain Newton's governing process.
